Substance Use Care
Overview
The ICHA Substance Care Clinic supports individuals who want to reduce or stop their use of substances such as opioids, stimulants, alcohol, benzodiazepines, cannabis, and others. Our approach is patient-centred, non-judgmental, and grounded in harm reduction, meeting people where they are in their journey.
ICHA provides a comprehensive range of medical substance use services informed by best-practice, evidence-based medicine, clinical guidelines, and recognized quality standards. This same high standard of care is delivered consistently across all ICHA substance use programs, including the Substance Use nursing, Substance Use Hub (Partnership with ICFHT), and Remote Clinics and Substance Use On-Call Program.
Patients are assessed in clinic by an ICHA clinician, who completes a thorough evaluation and works with the patient to develop an individualized treatment plan based on clinical need, goals, and safety. Treatment decisions, including medications and interventions, are determined by the clinician following assessment. For this reason, referrals should not include expectations for specific medications or treatments prior to clinical evaluation.
