Summary of Provincial Programs for Dental Care
OHIP will only pay for some dental surgery, when it is done in hospital. No coverage for regular dental services is provided.
Ontario Works provides basic dental coverage for children. No coverage is provided for adults.
ODSP Income Support may provide coverage for basic dental care for recipients, their spouse and any children under 18. If the disability, prescribed medications or prescribed treatment affects the patient’s oral health, additional services may be covered.
Healthy Smiles Program is a provincial program that provides free regular, non-emergency dental care for children under 18 who are residents of Ontario, meet certain income eligibility requirements, and have no other dental coverage through programs such as Ontario Works.
Children in Need of Treatment is a provincial program that provides free emergency dental care for children under 18 who are residents of Ontario, and have no other dental coverage through programs such as Ontario Works.
