Fareen Karachiwalla

Dr. Fareen Karachiwalla MD MPH CCFP FRCPC joined ICHA in 2013, and is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors.  Clinically, Fareen currently works at the Homes First Kennedy site as well as FCJ Refugee Clinic.  In the past, she has worked at Sanctuary, the Inner City FHT, and Adelaide Women’s Resource Centre.  Fareen is a trained Public Health & Preventive Medicine specialist as well as Family Physician.  She has a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins, with a focus on health systems and policy and completed her residency training at the University of Toronto.  Her interests include health equity, healthy public policy, community engagement and healthy growth and development in the early years.  Most recently, Fareen co-authored the 6th edition of a Canadian public health textbook – Shah’s Public Health & Preventive Health Care in Canada. She also holds academic appointments at both Queen’s University as well as the University of Toronto – Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
