Cheryllee Bourgeois

Cheryllee Bourgeois is an Exemption Red River Métis Midwife and mother of three. Cheryllee is a co-founder of Seventh Generation Midwives Toronto where she has worked as a midwife since 2007, beginning her career as a Registered Midwife for the first 11 years when she opted to work under the Exemption for Indigenous Midwives to better respond to the needs of the urban Indigenous Community. Cheryllee was also one the Midwife Co-Leads establishing the Toronto Birth Centre, an Indigenous and Midwife-led space, where she served as President of the Board for the first 6 years. She has been a Knowledge User and Data Custodian on several research projects including Three Ribbon Indigenous Evaluation expert consensus Panel, Our Health Counts Toronto and The Baby Bundle Project. In 2023-24 She was recognized as a Future Legacy Leader by Spirit Aligned Leadership engaging in a year of mentorship with a Métis elder.

Currently, as Program Lead at Call Auntie, she works to support Indigenous Sexual and Reproductive Justice through Outreach Midwifery alongside an interdisciplinary team of providers using Indigenous kinship systems and teachings as the model for relationship building and care delivery. Cheryllee provides culturally safe medical, midwifery and social care to Indigenous individuals and families. Low-barrier with a focus on harm reduction rooted in cultural integrity – including pregnancy care, abortion services, STBBI testing and treatment and as a bridge into other healthcare. This work is the fire in her belly that fuels her commitment to seeing the next generation of Indigenous babies being welcomed knowing they are loved and wanted by the community.
